This course will cover mathematical foundations for engineering, covering a selection of methods:
- Linear algebra: Gaussian elimination, decompositions, minimum principles and eigenvalues.
- Equations of equilibrium: where we apply linear algebra in some discrete cases.
- Continuous equilibrium: where we study differential equations.
- Transform techniques: Fourier series and integrals, complex variables and conformal maps.
The course will be based on Gilbert Strang's book Introduction to Applied Mathematics (ST/517 in the Civil Engineering Library), and will be taught by Dr. Raphael Stuhlmeier (raphaels@technion.ac.il).
Further details to follow.
NB: the course will be taught in English.
